Matt Katsis!

Image

The seed was planted for Matt around the age of eight through family friends playing the acoustic guitar at family gatherings. Following those early years, it quickly became clear to Matt and those close to him that music, in some way, shape, or form was sure to stick around.

Fast forward to today, Matt Katsis has emerged into an alternative singer-songwriter & guitarist with an individual edge; continuing that affinity toward the guitar, a partnership going strong over two decades on since he set his sights on that 6-string acoustic.

After extensively touring the past few years with a “one-man-band” live approach featuring percussive elements of 6 & 9-string acoustic guitars, kick drum, tambourine and harmonica, Victorian based Australian Singer-Songwriter-Guitarist Matt Katsis has taken to audiences far and wide with the ease and merit that parallel’s his music.

Support shows with Australian Blues & Roots music aficionados Jeff Lang and Backsliders were highlights in 2019 and previously he completed a run of 30 shows across the country in support of his ‘As The River Runs’ EP Release Tour. Recent festival performances include; Echuca Winter Blues, Mornington Peninsula Blues Festival, Illawarra Folk Festival, Marysville Jazz & Blues Weekend and Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival.

His 2017 EP release “As The River Runs” & recent 2019 live album “Live At The Wheaty” (The Wheatsheaf, Adelaide) encompasses his distinctive fusion of folk, blues and roots and hints at influences of alternative country and Americana.

Live At The Wheaty presents a collection of songs captured live, raw and solo during the Adelaide leg of his past National tours. As The River Runs was inspired by his travels through North America’s West and the deep South, the recording process for the EP was a lengthy one but necessary to achieve the sounds imagined by Matt. After the initial live recordings took place in a small church in the goldfields area of Victoria, the remainder of the EP was recorded by Matt himself with just one condenser microphone.

When asked about the EP, Matt explains; “This EP as a whole has pushed me further as a singer-songwriter, which has led me to cross new territory through a wider use of instrumentation and in particular a refined view on song form and arrangement.”

A Bluesman at heart and avid wanderer reflecting troubadour tradition, albeit delicate folk ballads to foot stomping slide guitar driven down-home blues swagger - stay tuned for new single releases and much more ahead.

Benjamin Trillado

May 15th, 2020, 8:30pm

Known for his heart-wrenching lyrics and unapologetic candour, Benjamin Trillado combines the story-telling elements of folk with the gritty angst of indie-rock. With his powerful vocals and delicate guitar work, Benjamin has left rooms full of rowdy punters speechless.

Raised in a Filipino household where karaoke was family religion, Benjamin was constantly surrounded by music. At the age of 12, he wiped off the dust from his father’s guitar and spent the majority of his childhood writing songs in his bedroom. He continued to study music into his tertiary years and was mentored by singer/songwriter Ainslie Wills and Killing Heidi’s Jesse Hooper.

Benjamin’s music has already reached a global audience, with his debut single ‘Glue’ attaining over 450,000 streams on Spotify. He has spent the past year playing countless shows in Melbourne and Sydney and is now back to share new music. For his latest single 'Worth', Benjamin teamed up with sound engineer Jono Steer (Angie McMahon), and Grammy-nominated mastering engineer Joe Carra. ‘Worth’ is his most honest track yet, an empowering search for self-love and acceptance as a queer person.

Seb Szabo

May 8th, 2020, 8:30pm

After an impressive first six months as a solo artist, highlighted by an appearance supporting San Cisco at a sold-out Alexander Theatre in April, American-born and Melbourne-raised songwriter Seb Szabo has set about putting his big-hearted songs to record with the help of producer Josh Barber (Gretta Ray) at The Aviary Studios.

"Tears We've Been Holding Back", an ode and farewell to a special friendship, is a perfect encapsulation of his sound. Combining rich, warm vocals, tender lyrics and an expansive musicality reminiscent of early Coldplay, the result is a passionate interplay between textured guitars, melodic string arrangements and powerful rhythms.

Seb and his band bring his sweeping musical vision to the stage with a live show designed to uplift and inspire. With many more songs planned for the studio, keep an ear out for more music from Seb in 2020.

'Tears We've Been Holding Back' is out everywhere now.

Taylah Carroll

May 8th, 2020, 9:00pm

Hallmarked by commanding vocals and seamless transitions between vulnerability and strength, Taylah Carroll’s music is equal parts confessional dreamy alt-rock and indie-folk. With producer Tim Harvey (Jade Imagine, Gena Rose Bruce) at its helm, Taylah Carroll’s latest single, 'I’m Not Sold', juxtaposes anxiety and self-assuredness, as it narrates the common terror of the quarter-life crisis.

Taylah has always liked words. To listen to them, to think about them, to write them. It makes sense then, that lyrics are the centrepiece of her craft. With stylistic echoes of Mazzy Star, and Angel Olsen, the singer-songwriter cites Tom Waits, Tori Amos, and Radiohead as key inspirations, the amalgamation of which have her leaning into nostalgia, with one foot always placed firmly ahead.

Maxon

April 17, 2020, 8:30pm

Australian singer-songwriter Maxon is currently shaking audiences with her trademark vocal and boundless song-writing talents.

A gifted and versatile artist, Maxon burst onto the Melbourne music scene in 2016 with her own brand of raw, emotionally-driven pop songs and a dynamic vocal range that earned her comparisons to the likes of Adele, Meg Mac and even one of her biggest inspirations, Alanis Morissette.

With unstoppable strength and a callousness toward burning bridges if need be, Maxon’s writing is stylistic of a diary entry; clandestine and forthright.

Such confessional writing is bound to a vulnerable stage presence and a voice soaked in command, as Maxon’s audiences witness the tale of the gifted singer and her battle through the trials and tribulations of love and its conditions.

Maxon is an absolute show stopper - Join us this Friday at 8:30pm !!
